Ella Blue gets a kiss from parents Kelly Preston and John Travolta
Being a celebrity isn’t what it used to be. Now there’s not only the fame and fortune (or is that misfortune?) to deal with, but there’s paprazzi and–gasp-blogs to deal with. But seriously, if you were a celebrity and had a child, would you want them to follow in your footsteps? If Hollywood is good enough for you, is it good enough for the kids?
Here is what some famous parents have had to say on the subject:
John Travolta – Daughter Ella Blue recently made her acting debut on the big screen, starring alongside her dad and mom Kelly Preston in “Old Dogs.” John says Ella is a natural: “She’s a natural performer…She’s just like I was. I didn’t push it at all, because I knew that worked. My mother didn’t push me, either. We were just given our space to be whatever we wanted to be, and I decided that works better than any kind of pressure.” John added, “Unless they’re afraid they’re going to be rejected and they want you to protect them. And I can imagine parents would fear that, but you can be rejected in any profession.”
Melissa Joan Hart – Melissa hopes her two boys — Mason and Brady — don’t catch the acting bug. When asked if she wants her boys to follow in her acting footsteps, she replied: “Not really, but I wouldn’t stop them if it’s really in their hearts. They are both very dramatic and musical so it might be coming.”
Alison Sweeney – When asked her if she hopes her children — Ben and Megan — will walk in her famous footsteps. Alison replied: “It wouldn’t be my first choice, but then, it’s not my choice. If when my kids get older, they express an interest, I’ll support them in pursuing their dreams as my parents have done for my brothers and me.”
Brooke Shields – The former child star does not want either of her daughters — Rowan, 6 1/2, and Grier, 3 1/2 — to enter show business. “For their sake, I hope they don’t. There’s a lot of pressure. As long as they get an education, they can do whatever they want. If they need my help, I’ll try, but I hope they find other interests.”
Will Smith – The actor and wife Jada Pinkett Smith already have an acting dynasty going on– son Jaden, 11, and daughter Willow, 9, have already graced the big screen. Will points out that his kids have different focuses though: “She has a drive. She has an energy and she just connects to human emotion,” Will said of daughter Willow. “I think a big part was probably [seeing] Jaden after ‘The Pursuit of Happyness.’ She saw what Jaden did, and she was like, ‘I want that,’” Will added. “Jaden is [like] Johnny Depp. He just wants to do good work … He loves acting, he just wants to make good movies,” Will said and joked, “and Willow is Paris Hilton. Willow wants to be on TV.”
